Awakening

With the chaos that has our world in its embrace right now, it is easy to lose sight of creative and enlightening endeavors that set our souls on fire. I admit, I haven’t felt the burn in quite a while as I have been stuck in my home working fully remotely, juggling remote education for my kids, and attempting to stay sane as metrics are constantly being bombarded one after the other, channel after channel, article after article. The uncertainty of this whole thing has most of us being carried off by the hands of anxiety and hopelessness. When was the last time we gave our closest friends hugs? When was the last time we were able to exchange a smile with one another, a face to face encounter without a mask?

And so, in the middle of this, I have brushed aside the things that used to fuel my humanity, writing, reading, thinking, creating, and actively seeking that which inspires me, awakens me. But, now more than ever, we must go after these things. It is in this human creative drive in whatever medium we choose that we are reminded of something very important about being alive. This body holds something magical inside our hearts that is so unique and beautiful. Remember that painting that awakened something inside of you as if there was some kind of spiritual connection with it? Or that book you read that moved you so much that you cried? Or that song that sent tremors through your skin? We must keep our humanity alive by being touched like this through art. The creative drive unifies us, gives us a voice that holds us together on a level that is only achieved through the artistic medium. We see in a different way. And if we forget it, well, then we’ve let this virus win. So here I am, with words in my mind, ready to begin where I left off. I invite the awakening of my soul to happen once more. Because what this year has shown us is that tomorrow will not be guaranteed to us. So create now more than ever before you are no longer able to.
